The Artist
Let’s get acquainted…
A pause in my life to reflect and relax brought me to this creative endeavor – Silk Painting. A clinical researcher by profession, this avenue provides me immense joy as I create fashion accessories and paintings using one of my favorite materials – natural silk.
I stumbled upon this art form. I have always loved watercolors but I was looking to try another medium. I gravitate towards natural, comfortable fabrics, and the fact that I could create wearable pieces of art using silk excited me. I started using professional dyes to paint on silk and the result was simply awesome! The dyes bond with the silk fiber becoming a part of the fabric itself rather than a stiff overlay. I am able to create luxurious pieces which retain the luminosity and flowy nature of natural silk.
I draw my inspiration from nature and color schemes that I think are eye-catching. You will see a lot of abstracts, geometrical, contemporary designs, some with a social message or cause that I care about. I love to experiment with whatever catches my fancy at that moment…
Shuli is the name for night-flowering jasmine and I named my studio after it. It’s a delicate white flower with an orange stem and an enticing fragrance that lingers on through the night. My hope is you enjoy wearing or displaying these works of art as much as I had in creating these.
From my studio to you with gratitude and love.
